Basic
Everyone has to start somewhere, however, I do not recommend branching out until you are certain of your playstyle. I’ve compiled a list of recommended items to help others start. This list is not perfect, but it is certainly a start.
G&G Raider Gen-2 ($190)
– Red Dot Sight* ($20-$40)
– 2x High-cap Magazines (I recommend 3x if you play aggressive.)
– Any VFG* (<$20)
2x Batteries
1x Smart Charger
Thin Mechanic Gloves**
Cargo Pants
Long Sleeve Shirt
Hiking Boots
Airsoft/Paintball Mask
Red Handkerchief***
Blue Handkerchief***
[*] – Optional Items, not required but makes gameplay more fun and enjoyable.
[**] – Pretty stupid not to wear gloves, as I’ve learned that the hard way…
[***] – Not all fields use bandanas, but it is still recommended to carry them.
Intermediate
Recommendations here are more stylized for your playstyle. I won’t be recommending items based on what is required, but instead based on playstyle.
Rifleman: General Infantryman – Simple, Solid, Reliable.
If you’ve taken my advice so far, you have no need to upgrade your rifle yet. Attachments are your next best idea. As such, do your best to figure out what grip and sight combo works best. I recommend you get a plate carrier, chest-rig, or mag-sachel to assist with reloads.
I’m currently still a rifleman myself, as my next upgrade is still a ways off. I’m looking at an Arcturus AK-12 currently.
Marksman: Slow, precise shots are better than many
Any sniper or DMR of choice
Tokyo Marui VSR-10 ($220) or JG VSR-10 ($130) (Clone of Marui’s, but works just as well. Only difference is body quality which is near identical.)
Pros – 1. Cheap, highly customizable rifle
2. Readily available upgrades, accessories, and attachments
3. Many accessories can be 3D printed
Cons – 1. Must be upgraded
AND
Any handgun or SMG of choice
NO REVOLVERS (with exception of H8R Gen-2)
ACTION ARMY AAP-01 ($90)
Pros – 1. Cheap
2. Highly modular. (I’ve run this thing in RONIs, Carbines, and even DMRs. The modularity is alarming…)
Cons – 1. Gas is an expensive commodity
2. Relatively Expensive Magazines (common for all handguns)
Tokyo Marui Hi-Capa ($160)
Pros – 1. The most recommended handgun on the market.
2. Reliable, affordable handgun
3. Large amount of aftermarket parts with high customizability
Cons – 1. Gas is an expensive commodity
Please stay away from sniping in airsoft. You are welcome to choose this role once you have on-site experience and actually know what you’re doing, but not before. Snipers are generally annoying to play with/against, and don’t often do much besides annoying the respective enemy team. This is not some highlight real on youtube, this is actually much slower and far less rewarding than that. Please do not waste your money on gear you find out won’t do the job for you. Just buy the right gear in the first place.
Breacher: You just can’t seem to stay put
G&G CM16 ARP 9 ($210)
Pros – 1. Excellent starter SMG
2. Made by G&G
3. Light weight
Cons – 1. Proprietary magazines
2. Poor barrel quality
ICS CXP-MARS PDW9 ($390)
Pros – 1. Comes fully upgraded out of the box
2. Can use magazine by different manufactures
Cons – 1. Restrictive battery space (must use a certain battery type)
2. Heavy; feels and handles like real steel
Do keep in mind that airsoft is seldom point blank, and as such your range might be a bit lacking occasionally.
Support: Victory through overwhelming firepower
G&G CM16 Gen-2 ($190+)
Pros – 1. Doesn’t need upgrades, but can get even better with them.
2. M4 platform rifle.
Cons – 1. Not all fields will allow an AR platform with a drum mag.
